Look What I Just Found!

Where in the world is it!? Is it under the bed? Maybe it’s over here in this stack of papers. No, that’s not it. Let me check the trash. I’m digging … past the dirty diapers, old food and empty containers. Wait! I think I feel something. There it is! I got it—hope!

You see I used to have a bunch of it. It’s what got me off the couch to register for school, down the aisle to say I do and to push harder while birthing my child. Sure I was registering for advanced math when English was really my thing. Yes, statistics say the divorce rate is at an all time high. And I’m very aware that there is a possibility my high risk pregnancy could end fatally. However, that’s what is so incredible about the notion of hope; it defies the law of gravity. Now, I know you think I’m crazy but just go with me for a moment …

Gravity (noun) is defined (and I’m paraphrasing) as a physical force near or at the earth that is responsible for interactions which occur because of mass particles that is 10 times the strength of its force. The second definition of gravity is simply-weight. Gravity is what holds us down.

Now let’s examine the definition of hope. There are two definitions the first is hope (verb): to desire with expectation of obtainment. The second is hope (noun): trust, reliance or desire accompanied by expectation of fulfillment or success.

The way I see it – this is the secret ingredient. Most people jump over hope to get to faith. Some bypass both and think it takes money or connections to get something off the ground. Don’t get me wrong, these things are helpful and are ingredients to the recipe of success. However, they all have their place. I believe hope is a main ingredient, Something you cannot do without. It is what pushes us into greatness.

The key is not having it—the real power comes when we learn not to lose it. Once we become hopeful about something, life begins to happen. All kinds of things are hurled at us (sickness, rejection, disappointment etc.) and slowly we find little pieces of our hope being thrown out daily until there’s nothing left.
Pharmaceutical companies make billions capitalizing off of some individuals who have lost hope and are looking to rid themselves of gravity which has presented itself in the form of depression. Now I’m not speaking on those that chemically have an imbalance that causes them to be depressed. PLEASE, take your medicine! But for the rest, I challenge them to find hope. It is the catalyst we use to have visions and dreams. Think of someone you know that doesn’t set goals for themselves, that person is a poster child for hopelessness. Without hope we are defeated before we even get started.

So now, where was I? That’s right. I just found my hope. Yeah it has the residue of garbage on it, but it’s too valuable for me to consider letting it go. So I’ll rinse it off and lay it out to dry cause I got plans for it. There are things that I want to do, places I want to go and it all starts with what I just found—MY HOPE.

What about you?
