There Is a Big Black Lab on my Bed

Life is great when viewed from the proper perspective. Currently I don’t have much in the way of time constraints, since I have joined the rapidly growing ranks of the nation’s unemployed. I worked for an auto parts supplier in north central Pennsylvania for nearly twelve years and was laid off from my job in the shipping department about two months ago. I can sleep in as little or as late as I desire, and this morning after arising well after the workforce had begun their daytime shift, I awoke to find my Black Lab nestled into a ball near my head.

Some people wouldn’t want an eighty-pound dog on their bed. Others wouldn’t even want such a dog in the house. Clara is quite spoiled, though, and even has her own pillow on my bed, which is a metal futon. I enjoy a simple existence in a rural section of Pennsylvania. I live in an old hunting camp. There is plenty of room outside for Clara to romp and roam. One of my relatives asked me why I would have such a large dog in such a small dwelling. Sometimes in the dead of winter I ask myself the same question, but it is quickly answered. I compare her living quarters to a dog kennel. Her kennel is heated and Clara has access to most of the furniture. If she gets bored lying about on one level, Clara can ascend or descend to the next level. Most dogs confined to kennels are there without furniture and most likely without heat. I am referring to private kennels in a back or side yard, not the kennel where some dogs are lodged while the owner is vacationing, or for some other reason is unable to care for the canine.

This is my first article for this website. Maybe it will come across as my first attempt at writing. No problem there, since “practice makes perfect” and writing for this website shall give me plenty of practice, and I intend to create a plethora of articles. At first, I was a bit ambivalent in my decision to join this website. Most men wouldn’t want a woman joining their group, so I feel like I am trespassing by writing for a female-oriented website. If more than half of you tell me that you don’t want me here then I will leave. To bad some of our former political leaders didn’t think the same way.

What do I want to write about? That question was easily answered this morning. All one needs to do is look around. Are you passionate about your topic? Then write about it. Fear not grammatical errors or what others will think of your writing. If you have to write then you must do so, for not writing shall cause more problems than generating something deemed to be less than worthwhile.

That large Black Lab is still on my bed. She goes where I go. If I am watching TV, Clara is beside me on the sofa. If I am at the computer, she is either on her pillow underneath the computer table or sleeping upside down on the futon. If I am reading in the lower level of my cement block hunting camp, then Clara is stretched out on the oval rug near the woodstove as I peruse periodicals or some other form of nonfiction while perched on my wooden rocking chair.

Optimism is waiting to entertain you. If you know where to look the sun is shining upon you on even the most gloomy, overcast day. Thank you for reading this and I look forward to writing more and reading what others have written as well. Good day to you all and may peace be with you on this and every day.
