Ties That Bound

Link by link breaking free,
Finding ways to discover me.
The girl left behind,
When those chains they did bind.
Once iron clad steel, it no longer can hold
This woman who remembers her spirit is bold.
Feeling more self worth as the chains they do fall,
The victory she feels is big, not small.
No anger or hatred, just pure relief,
As thoughts that once were become a new belief.
Still cautious, yet brave, the chain’s hold it gets weaker,
No more metal around, she now sees her.
Freedom at last from no one but herself,
Deciding she is someone, a heart full of wealth.
Rediscovering what in life she has to offer,
As the last chain falls, clanks loud to the floor.
