4 Ways to De-Stress This Holiday Season

The holidays are everyone’s favorite time of year for a reason: between cookie-baking, presents, big family dinners and other holiday festivities, December is a month where something always seems to be going on. This can be a good thing, of course, but a packed schedule can leave you with a lot on your plate and not too much time to get it all done.

To distract yourself from any stress or anxiety you may be feeling, make sure you’re taking time to actually enjoy yourself and your family during the holidays. Here are four easy ways to take a break from the holiday pressure and de-stress, unwind and refuel this season:


Distract Yourself

Stop thinking about which family members you still need to shop for and let your mind focus on something else for a little while. Turn on a football game, watch a holiday movie or read a chapter in a book to let your mind wander. It’s a good idea to keep protein-filled snacks around while you’re taking a break, such as mixed nuts or beef jerky, so you can stay fueled and avoid completely crashing while you relax.


Be Productive—in a Fun Way!

Present wrapping and holiday card writing are tasks that may seem like chores, but they don’t have to be so arduous. Turn gift-wrapping into a fun group activity; gather some friends, blast the Christmas music and keep the hot chocolate flowing to turn boring holiday work into a fun get-together you’ll actually enjoy.


Embrace Winter

When you’re cooped up in your kitchen or the mall, it can be easy to forget that it’s actually wintertime. Take advantage of the season by taking a walk in the snow, going ice skating at your local rink or building a snowman; not only will you let yourself take a break from your holiday stress, but you’ll have a blast feeling like a kid again.
