Coffee consumption is at an all time high. From young people drinking delicious, frozen Frappuccinos,to a morning, or lunchtime latte, coffee has never enjoyed such popularity and that is possibly due, in part, to recent research about the benefits of having coffee in moderation.

Studies show a lower risk of endometrial cancer and have also found that women and men who drank four or more cups a day have a lower risk of colon cancer compared with non-coffee drinkers. Sinha, of the National Cancer Institute, theorizes that coffee may help protect against colon cancer because it reduces "transit times." The less time food waste spends in the colon, the lower the risk of colon cancer. She stated, " There are about 1,000 compounds in coffee, we have only begun to skim the surface with these compounds."

As research continues, we are finding the benefits include a rich dose of antioxidants and bio-active compounds. Studies show protection against Parkinson's Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and Liver cancer. Also lessened were strokes, heart disease and dementia.

Interestingly, some things change the effects of coffee . It’s possible that the level of antioxidants in various beverages, as well as other added ingredients in coffee, such as sugar and milk, may modify caffeine’s effect. Preparation is also being looked at. Some people prefer traditional coffee makers, while others like a French press. The studies also took into account ages of subject, diet, exercise, and whether the beverage was decaf or not.

With coffee, as with all things, Cicero said it well, "Never go to excess, but let moderation be your guide."
