With food being such a big part of our lives, it’s important to have a good handle on it, as opposed to “it having a good handle on you”!
Here are four tips to help you improve your relationship with food and get through this pregnancy without packing on those unnecessary extra pounds:
Tip #1: Always sit down when you eat. You’d be surprised how many calories you keep yourself from eating when you’re more conscious of what you put in your mouth. Very often it’s the hand-to-mouth automatic motion that causes us to gain weight faster than we need (not to mention losing it quickly after we deliver!).
Tip #2: Put all of your food on one plate. When all of your food is on one plate, you can actually see exactly what and how much you’re eating. Especially during this time of year, we are so caught up in socializing, tasting, etc., that we often lose sight of what we’re actually putting in our mouths.
Tip #3: Eat as if you’re in full view of others. This accountability will help you be more mindful of whether or not you really need that second helping—give it a try!
Tip #4: Eat only out of physical hunger. Whenever a food beckons or calls you—just turn away. Physical hunger begins with a humming or empty feeling in your stomach, not a “wanting” in your head.
