The Power of Inspiration

It is amazing how powerful our minds can be. Our mind can tells us we are tired when we are not, we are hungry when we are not and even we are sick when we are not. This powerful tool can be a burden or it can be our best friend. When we use our mind in a positive way nothing can stop us from our dreams.

I can recall a day when I was doing my morning run. I used to do three circles around my neighborhood, roughly about three miles. Sometimes that three miles was easy and other days it felt like ten. So on a particularly difficult day I convinced myself by the second circle that I was simply too tired to continue. I told myself that I was out of breath, my legs were hurting and that I was done. Just as I was slowing down to walk (giving up), a van pulled up behind me. It was a suspicious van and I wasn’t very comfortable with its presence. I decided that I needed to run to get away from the van just in case. As I began to run it became apparent that I wasn’t tired at all. I had all the energy I needed and more. Maybe there was a little bit of adrenaline but I still didn’t feel any pain, didn’t feel out of breath, I felt perfectly fine.

As I was watching “The Biggest Loser,” the contestants were asked to run a marathon. They started out strong and then began to hit their walls. Not physical walls but mental walls. One of the contestants claimed they were done and even considered giving up. Then they saw a past contestant who gave them some words of wisdom. All of a sudden they had all this energy. They didn’t feel pain and they felt as if they just began. Why? This is the power of inspiration. It speaks to us all the time. Sometimes it whispers and sometimes it yells. How can you get your inspiration to yell and your fears to whisper? This is the type of power that will lead us anywhere we want to go.
