Taco Bell Diet in 2010

Taco Bell’s new spokesperson, Christine, claims to have lost 54 pounds by ordering off the fast food chain’s low-fat menu! WHAT?! COUNT ME IN!

When I read this story in the Daily News, I literally jumped for joy. ABCNews.com reported that Christine lost 54 pounds this year by ordering off Taco Bell’s low-fat “Fresco” menu, according to the chain’s new Drive-Thru Diet campaign.

Um, can anyone say Gorditas on me?

The Mexican fast-food chain is serving up a healthier menu items and now a healthy spokesperson, like Subway’s Jared Fogle, who helped rake in billions of dollars over the last decade for the chain, reports ABC News.

While the fact that Fogle lost over 245 pounds apparently just by munching on a few six inches (that sounds so wrong), I have to wonder, can fast food restaurants be trusted to help whip Americans into shape? It almost seems impossible. Personally, when the whiff of french fries and all things good hits me like a ton of bricks as I creep through the drive thru, I doubt I’ll be inclined to order anything “light” or “Fresco.”

Of course, with my lengthy list of resolutions including hard core diet and exercise starting Jan 1st, I suppose turning to what was once my hangover solution of choice for an alternative healthy solution isn’t the worst thing in the world. Good for Christine and good for Taco Bell for trying to make a difference.

In the meantime, I have just one question? Does a meximelt on New Year’s Day count as cheating?

Happy New Year!
