There seems that there’s no time in a day to count calories, pack a healthy lunch every day, or pay close enough attention to everything I am eating on a daily basis. I felt like I was the “Weekend Dieter.” Dieting only when I had the extra time to allow preparing such healthy and nutritious meals. I was never really much over weight, but I always held that little extra body fat around my middle (waist) and backside. I would consider ten to fifteen by my doctor’s figures, which was always where I stayed. Never gaining more than that, but also not losing more than three or four pounds at any time, and keeping it off was really the difficult part. I have tried many, and I mean many, many diets on the market: South Beach, Atkins, Weigh Watchers, and even Jenny Craig. I will admit Atkins to be the easiest to follow, but I did lose a bit more when I was on Jenny’s diet. They all have so many requirements to keep up with, counting calories, buying specialty mail order foods, etc. These all just seem to be so non-friendly to the typical working mom!
It’s just easy to eat on the go, between soccer games, and mall runs, dance classes and after-school functions. This is where the weight struggles come in to play for most. After all of my tries with conventional diet methods, I had just about given up. When I took notice to a co-worker in the office (I’ll call her skinny) that seemed to be losing weight and didn’t seem to be eating all that healthy. I had originally thought to myself, she (skinny) must be taking some type of dangerous medication or diet pills to be looking so good, so quickly. I didn’t want to ask her right away, as I felt it was over-stepping my boundaries because we really didn’t work “together” in the same district within our office. Everyone was complimenting her, and I couldn’t believe that she (skinny) was eating what seemed to be regular lunch type foods; pizza, burger, salads, sandwiches, etc. None of the foods which came from any diet program or reduced caloric menus. On my way out of the office one Friday, we were in the hallway together and everyone was once again complimenting her on how great she (skinny) looked, and I would have to say, she did indeed look great!
She had to have lost thirty to forty or more in a very short time frame and looked very healthy as well. One afternoon, I finally got up the nerve to compliment her myself and when doing so, she replied, “Thank You Carole, how is Jenny Craig working out for you?” I explained that I was no longer on that diet any longer (just as the other’s … it faded), and that I hadn’t the time to keep up with all of the calorie counting and special menus. Needless to say, she didn’t reveal her “secret” at that time, and I didn’t have the guts to initially ask. The following Monday morning, I was late to work, as my daughter had an eye exam earlier prior to school, and when I arrived at work I had noticed “her” (skinny) sitting at my desk. I was explained that her (skinny’s) side was under construction, and she was asked to use my phone to cancel her appointments for the morning hours.
When she got sight of me, she jumped up out of my seat and offered my desk and chair back to me immediately as she had finished what she needed to get done. She packed up her stuff from my desk and said that she was leaving for the rest of the morning. When I sat down at my desk, I noticed a bright pink sticky note was standing out placed just under my calendar and it read “Fat Loss 4 idiots.” I initially thought that maybe she (skinny) was referring to me as an “idiot”?!! What in the world was this about? I was very upset. The next day at the office, I approached “skinny” and asked her the meaning of this sticky note left un-intentionally—“intentionally.” She explained that this was the name of the program that she had been on for the last month or so, and needless to say, I was extremely embarrassed by my judgments.
My face was red, I’m sure, and I couldn’t apologize enough for jumping to conclusions. She ended up giving me the information, which was all on the internet, and I was so eager to start this new diet. I knew it would work, as I was able to “SEE” the results everyday sitting in my office watching skinny get skinnier! I found the diet, downloaded the electronic version immediately, and I have been successfully losing weight now after three weeks. I have lost sixteen pounds in three weeks, and I was so excited to go shopping for new clothing yesterday! I am now down two sizes and I am the talk around the office nowadays.
I have shared this with everyone I know who had successfully failed at other diets, and even those who just wanted to lose a couple of pounds. The best part is, there are no calorie counts, you can eat regularly (with very little adjustments) and it is EASY! Especially for working moms like me, who have barely enough time to find matching shoes in the morning for the kids.
