For those rides that involve a few tear-inducing descents and some unpredictable weather, Giro's new Wind Jacket perfectly fits th...e bill. This lightweight jacket was made using a durable ripstop nylon, which effectively blocks the wind and light rain from reaching your core. Clean shoulder vents were strategically placed along the back, serving to evacuate warm air and moisture buildup from within. The result is a superlight outer layer that keeps your torso shielded from the weather. When things heat up, simply unzip and stash it in a jersey pocket--the lightweight design packs down into its own built-in stow pouch. Finishing off the jacket are reflective accents throughout, a light elastic treatment at the hem, and a smooth two-way zipper. The Giro Wind Jacket - Women's is available in sizes X-Small to X-Large and in the colors Dark Shadow, Glowing Red, and Wild Lime. read more

Unless you lived in New York City in the summer of 2013, you probably didn't have the opportunity to stand in line for several hou...rs to visit Rain Room, an art installation that manufactured rain but used sensors to ensure that the rain fell around people, never actually getting them wet. We never had the opportunity to experience that, either, but the Giro Women's Rain Jacket affords us a similar chance to find out what it's like to stand in rain without getting wet. So in a way, the Rain Jacket turns a rainy bike ride into performance art. The Rain Jacket is made from a 2. 5-layer, four-way stretch taffeta that's waterproof to 20,000 millimeters yet still breathable. That means it'll keep out all but the most highly-pressurized instances of external moisture while still letting the water vapor created in the jacket's microclimate escape. So in short, you'll stay dry, but not at the cost of restricted movement in the saddle. The seams are fully taped and the jacket has a cape vent across the back at the shoulders, so the flap keeps water out while allowing for even more ventilation than the breathable fabric affords by itself. Reflective piping helps keep you visible in low-light conditions. The Giro Women's Rain Jacket is available in five sizes ranging from X-Small to X-Large in the colors Castor Gray and Glowing Red. read more

Giro's ever-expanding line of New Road kit has added a new -- and welcome -- member with the Women's Ride Shorts. While we're big ...fans of both the men's and women's kit (the former is reviewed here), we felt that Giro's New Road and performance road kit were blending in a way that made the lack of a pair of Lycra shorts a glaring omission. Now we have the simple styling that underwrites the New Road design in a pair of shorts that can handle charity rides, training, and even races. The body is made from 100% Italian M. I. T. I. Lycra. These guys are leaders in the Lycra industry; chances are that if you've ever pulled on a stretchy piece of material for any activity, then you've been touched by their innovation. The fabric's combination of gentle compression and soft touch make for a supportive ride that helps to eliminate fatigue caused by road vibrations while keeping you comfortable for hours at a time in the saddle. The number of panels used is kept to a minimum to alleviate chafing at the joints, and what little thread Giro does use is applied with a skin-friendly flatlock stitching design, so not even the seams are abrasive. More compressive bands at the waist and cuffs keep both the body and the chamois of the shorts in place. The latter is especially important, as CyTech, yet another leader in cycling technology, designed it with a variable topography of high-density foam padding to keep pressure where you want it while protecting sensitive areas. The face material is soft, stretchy, and antimicrobial. While those aren't the typical qualities we look for in a riding companion, we certainly wouldn't recommend leaving home without them. read more

An afternoon drizzle won't keep you off the bike when your kit includes the Giro New Road Women's Rain Jacket. Rain, fog, and mist... will roll right off the 2. 5-layer waterproof membrane, while the fully taped seams prevent dampness from penetrating through microscopic seam joints, even if it's raining hard and you're riding fast. The real beauty of the New Road, though, is its breathability. Rated to 20,000 grams per square meter, it will transfer water vapor as quickly as it manifests, so you never feel clammy or sticky. A subtle back vent helps further with air circulation, and the stretchy fabric has a soft hand, so it won't rustle you into insanity when you're putting in soggy hours in the saddle. Finally, unlike traditional rain jackets, the New Road has a droppZed back hem that's expressly designed to keep you covered when you're stretched out on the handlebars, so you can keep gaps to a minimum and focus on riding, not on your increasingly soggy baselayers. read more

The Giro Women's Undershorts, however, are. The Undershorts' Lycra and nylon blend is both supportive and breathable, but the real comfort comes in the form of the Italian-made Cytech Chamois pad. Specially designed for women, the pad is anatomically shaped and layered with variable densities of padding to properly support the sit bones (or ischial tuberosity) while simultaneously relieving pressure on more sensitive tissue, preserving your comfort, even on long rides, by eliminating pressure points, hotspots, and numbness, even as far down as your feet. The wide-banded elastic waist provides a slim, flattering fit and makes these shorts easy to wear beneath virtually anything, too. The Giro Terradura Women's Mountain Shoes strike the perfect balance between super stiff-soled shoes that transfer all the power b...ut aren't great for walking and soft-soled shoes that walk well but feel squishy on the pedals. Giro uses a strong and durable nylon shank that's stiff enough to get down the trail fast and just flexible enough to keep your heels in your shoes when hiking your bike up a steep incline. A Vibram lugged outsole also grips rocks and other obstacles that you come across on the trails better than shoes that come outfitted with plastic lugs. Even with all that attention to the outsole, Giro didn't ignore fit. The Terradura's upper is designed to fit a narrower foot, with a ratcheting buckle and two hook-and-look closures for a comfy and secure fit. Depending on who you ask, bib-free shorts are either far more, or far less, comfortable than their bibbed cousins. Wherever you ma...y stand on the issue, Giro constructed its women's Chrono Pro Shorts to appeal to both sides of the fence. With a wide, flat waistband reminiscent of a favorite pair of yoga pants along with a knit lumbar panel to lend support to lower back muscles, the Chrono Pro was designed with ride-enhancing comfort in mind. Giro constructs the shorts primarily out of an Italian Lycra that gives the shorts a body-hugging, contoured fit that will hold its shape without shifting or stretching. The knit lumbar support panel provides a more compressive fit to help prevent aching lower back muscles, while the fabric panels work together to draw moisture away from your skin as you ride. Giro's Chrono Expert Chamois lines the shorts, providing a mix of support and relief as you pedal with a breathable, multi-density arrangement of foam shaped specifically for women. read more
