More about Saxon Henry
I often wonder if I came out of the womb thinking about how the design of our homes makes an impact on our lives. I love visionary design and I love the feeling a wonderfully composed room provides the senses. This doesn't mean "perfectly" composed or "put together." It means a room that evokes the feelings of comfort, ease and repose. I think it takes a unique talent to create spaces that have this essentialness. As a design journalist, I have seen my fair share of homes so I feel I can be so bold as to say that I have enough experience to judge.
I spend a great deal of time thinking about harmony, especially given all that is challenging in the world right now. I think harmony is a great underpinning of accessible and beautiful design. During an interview with furniture manufacturer Giulio Cappellini, I asked him about a comment he once made that it is his responsibility to make designers dream. "It is important to find a perfect feeling between myself and the designer," he explained. "You can work for a long period of time on a project with the aim of creating a good product only if you have the right harmony."
I also asked Mr. Cappellini what, if anything, he would change about his profession. "I would try and make products that are closer to the public's requirements and that can also make them dream," he answered. Shouldn't we all be so lucky as to have homes filled with only things that make us dream?
I regularly publish interviews with amazing designers on DesignCommotion.com, my ezine. Stop by and take a look sometime...
