Amber K. Stott writes about food and adventure. She blogs at www.awakeatthewhisk.blogspot.com, while her food reviews appear on Yelp (www.ambers.yelp.com), where she has twice been voted "Review of the Day." By day, she works in nonprofit fundraising, communications, and marketing. She currently channels her passion for women's rights as the Director of Community Partnerships at Women's Empowerment, a nonprofit helping homeless women get back to work and find homes. From 2005 to 2008, she served as Senior Communications Manager at Freedom from Hunger. Her work there included the creation of Freedom from Hunger Day, an awareness-raising day declared by the State of California. From 2003-2005, she lead the Development & Community Relations Department at Sacramento County-based nonprofit, WEAVE. Stott holds three gold CAPPIE awards from the Sacramento Public Relations Association (SPRA) for excellence in event planning and nonprofit newsletter writing. She is also a member and past board member of SPRA, and a current board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois in African Studies and Women’s Studies. During her studies, she traveled to South Africa on a Fulbright-Hayes to study Zulu. Her bachelor’s degree from the same university is in Comparative Literature (with an emphasis on Danish language and literature) and Women’s Studies. Stott speaks some Danish and elementary-level Zulu. Stott is married and lives with her husband and two cats in Sacramento, California.
