Early on, our idea of beauty meant applying mom’s discarded Clinique eye shadow samples in brilliant, striped rainbows across our tiny five-year-old eyelids or crawling onto her vanity and chopping our baby-blonde hair into self-imposed jagged bobs. Despite well-stocked Caboodles, early efforts to take part in the adult world of beauty may have been misguided—as we imagine everyone’s have been at some point—but it means after a lifetime of playing with products we’ve learned what works to make us feel most beautiful. After writing about beauty for print magazines for a combined 10 years, we realized our passion for this industry was not a passing phase.
