Danny Abshire is the co-founder of Newton Running, a Boulder, Colorado based company that makes shoes that promote an efficient midfoot running gait. For more than 20 years Abshire has been working closely with elite runners, cyclists and triathletes, Abshire developed unique, lightweight custom orthotics which have benefited Olympic marathon runners, 10 Iron Man World Champions and Olympic and Tour De France cyclists.

Sir Isaac Newton's third law of motion (For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction) is the inspiration for Newton Running's running shoe line that replaces the foam and inherent energy loss of traditional running shoes.

Traditional running styles involve heel-striking. Heel-strike running on the roads sends tremendous shockwaves up your body. Those impacts can have numerous negative affects upstream as your body tries to offset that force and remain balanced, including various forms of tendinitis, illiotibial band strains and adverse sheering in the pelvis and lower spine. "It's no different than somebody hitting you on the heel with a sledgehammer with 300 to 400 pounds of force," says Daniel Lieberman, the Harvard University evolutionary biologist who concluded in a study released in January 2010.

Landing on your midfoot/forefoot is the most natural way to run. It is also the fastest and most efficient way to run. Landing lightly at your midfoot using an optimal running form and picking up your foot quickly to start a new stride is the most effective way your body knows to propel and protect itself while running.

Newton Running shoes are the only shoes that were developed specifically for Natural Running. For more information on Abshire or Newton Running, go to www.newtonrunning.com.
