Ombre is hot, hot, hot, and now you can get the look on your fingers with this easy ombre nail art technique. Grab a makeup sponge and three polishes in the same color family, then prepare to pull off some nails that are sure to impress.
Ombre effects are everywhere, from fabric to hair color. Now you can bring this color gradation technique to your nails with just a few materials and your creativity. To start, gather your materials. You'll need polish on three shades of purple. You'll also need wedge-shaped makeup sponges, a base coat and a top coat. Have polish remover and Q-tips or an angled brush on hand to clean up any mistake. After applying a base coat, protect your nails, apply a layer of the lightest purple polish and allow it to dry completely. Next, pour a small pool of the darkest polish color on a paper plate and dip the base of the makeup sponge into the polish. Dab the sponge on the plate to work the polish into it then apply to the tops of the nail, gently pressing down to make sure the color transfers. Repeat for all your nails picking more polish with the sponge as needed. Pour a small pool of the medium purple polish on the plate and use the narrow end of the sponge to apply that color to your fingers, overlapping the dark and light colors. You'll get the best blended effect if you work quickly so the polish doesn't dry out. Once you finish painting your nails you'll need to clean the mess around the cuticles, using polish remover or an angled brush and Q-tip, clean up the sides. Once the polishes dry and your cuticles are polish-free, add a top coat to finish the look. Although it looks complicated, you can't mess up this technique. Try it with your favorite color combinations today.
