How to Trim Your Own Hair

Not every trim calls for a trip to the salon. If you can’t get fit in a visit to your stylist or if you simply want to freshen up your split ends, this tutorial for trimming your own hair saves the day. The secret is to go slow and trim your ends with an angled snip. Here's how to trim your own hair successfully.

Don't tell my fellow stylist but I'm about to show you how you can trim your hair in a pinch because sometimes, you're just too busy to make it into the salon. To get started, you're just gonna part your hair straight down the center into two equal sections. Pull both sections forward and decide how much you need to take off. My general rule is that whatever is see through is what needs to come off. If you got more than an inch or two, you've been avoiding your stylist. I'm gonna take about a half an inch off. Angling your scissors at 11 o'clock carefully cut off your dead ends. Cutting at an angle like this creates softness, helps prevent bulky ends and blends any imperfections. Continue to cut little by little until you're at desired length. Remember if you're not experienced, it's best to just do a light trim or dusting as I like to call it. Just check your length by tagging on both sides at the same time to make sure it is even. Give yourself a pat on the back and a little hair toss. You've got fresh ends.
